Our Journey

DesleeMattex, originally known as Mattex, was established in 1962. In March 2010, we signed a Joint Venture Agreement with Deslee Clama, allowing us to produce world-class mattress fabrics locally in Africa.

Partnership

The partnership with Deslee Clama enabled us to offer locally produced, world-class mattress fabric, featuring technology that ensures the ultimate sleeping solution. We utilize state-of-the-art air jet looms and circular knitting equipment.

Expansion and Growth

In 2016, Deslee Clama merged with Bekaert Textiles, forming BekaertDeslee, a global leader with 19 factories worldwide. This merger brought us more expertise and resources, allowing us to further enhance our product offerings.

We supply technology-driven, first-grade mattress fabrics with stylish patterns inspired by global décor trends. Our range includes everything from economical, modern designs to luxurious fabrics fit for royalty.

DesleeMattex employs 158 skilled professionals in Cape Town, with a strong commitment to training and development. Our workforce is supported by our international partners, ensuring excellence in every discipline of production.

Our Journey


DesleeMattex, founded in 1962 and formerly known as Mattex, entered into a joint venture with Belgium-based Deslee Clama in 2010, acquiring a 40% share. Deslee Clama operates globally with facilities in Romania, the U.S., Indonesia, Brazil, and sales offices in Spain, Singapore, and India.

This partnership allows DesleeMattex to offer locally produced, high-quality mattress fabrics in Africa, using advanced air jet looms, circular knitting equipment, and a finishing line. The company prioritizes lean manufacturing and customer satisfaction.

In 2016, Deslee Clama merged with Bekaert Textiles, creating Bekaert Deslee, a global leader in mattress fabrics with 19 factories worldwide.

DesleeMattex delivers technologically advanced, stylish fabrics inspired by global décor trends. Its range includes everything from affordable, lightweight fabrics to luxurious options for premium mattresses, along with matching upholstery fabrics for borders. Customers can customize designs to enhance their brand presence in the retail market. Innovation and design are tailored to local needs, supported by global trends through the group’s International Development Centre in Belgium.

Our Location

The DesleeMattex plant covers over 19,000 m² and is located 17 km from central Cape Town in a well-established industrial area. It benefits from a comprehensive road freight network and its proximity to the Cape Town port ensures quick access to international sea freight routes.

Production Departments

Each department operates with rigorous quality standards to ensure that only the finest textiles reach our customers. Our production line is where innovation meets precision. DesleeMattex’s facilities include:

Extrution

Extrusion

The Extrusion department produces continuous polypropylene multi-filament yarns (FDY) in various deniers for use as weft in woven fabrics, as well as for direct sale to the local textile industry. We also operate a state-of-the-art Taslan machine to create high-quality air jet textured yarn for woven fabrics.

Preparation

Preparation

In the Preparation department, yarn is wound onto warp beams, sized, and arranged for use on our looms. The warp machine ensures consistent tension and thread configuration, ensuring the quality and consistency of the warp threads for high-quality woven fabrics.

Weaving

Weaving

Our Weaving plant features 33 looms capable of producing a wide range of jacquard woven fabrics in diverse designs. With electronic jacquard and air jet looms, we can produce 21,000 meters of fabric per day.

Knitting

Knitting

The Circular Knitting plant, operational since 2010, has expanded its capacity over the years. With Terrot machines added in 2015, our output capacity now stands at 9,500 meters of fabric per day.

Finishing

Finishing

The Finishing department comprises of a stenter and lamination line to perfectly finish off our fabrics in the application of steam and a variety of innovative finishes to the fabric surface. Our lamination line allows us to apply a range of substrates to our fabrics to ensure a stable product for our customers further processing.
